Accomplishing
this goal of clear, concise communication means paying close attention
to what
the client wants and recommending the best tool, the best process for
the
purpose. When approaching a documentation task, we begin by asking the
following questions: "What is the purpose of this - why does it
exist?" "What are the tasks I need to perform, and how do I do them?"
"Why do I need to use it?" "Why would I WANT to use this
product?" Armed with this information, the communicator can then select
the best tool, the best process to produce high quality documentation
for the
client.
One tool,
one process, does not fill every need. For this reason, we do not limit
ourselves to any one tool, but select the one best suited to the
purpose, even
using multiple tools, if necessary, for the same project.
